• Untied States - 8.38 deaths/1,000 population
5. What is the overall Life Expectancy?
• Nigeria - 46.94 years
• South Africa - 48.98 years
• Sudan - 51.42 years
• Ethiopia - 55.41 years
• Kenya - 57.86 years
• Untied States - 78.11 years
6. What is the infant mortality rate?
• Nigeria - 94.35 deaths/1,000 live births
• South Africa - 44.42 deaths/1,000 live births
• Sudan - 82.43 deaths/1,000 live births
• Ethiopia - 80.8 deaths/1,000 live births
• Kenya - 54.7 deaths/1,000 live births
• Untied States - 6.26 deaths/1,000 live births
7. What is their colonial experience? Who did they gain their independence from, and when?
• Nigeria - October 1, 1960 (from the UK)
• South Africa - 31 May 1910 (Union of South Africa formed from four British colonies: Cape Colony, Natal, Transvaal, and Orange Free State); 31 May 1961 (republic declared) 27 April 1994 (majority rule)
• Sudan - 1 January 1956 (from Egypt and the UK)
• Ethiopia - oldest independent country in Africa and one of the oldest in the world - at least 2,000 years
• Kenya - 12 December 1963 (from the UK)
• Untied States - 4 July 1776 (from Great Britain)

Would you consider each of these nations a developed country or a developing country? Why?
I would consider all but United States a developing country. Although all are developing because Ethiopia is the oldest independent country in Africa and one of the oldest in the world by about 2,000 years you would think they would be in the higher phase of demographic transition. Instead they still have 85,237,338 and the countries life expectancy is very low telling me their health care probably is not as good as the United States. The United States Surpasses all the other countries population combined at 307,212,123. The United States life expectancy is at 78 years old and the birth rate and death rate are close making the population stay even but, slowly growing enough to keep the country growing. Another way I can tell the sub-Saharan countries population pyramid is like a perfect pyramid telling me that they are growing, health care is low and is developing. When United States’ Population Pyramid looks like a “bottle” shape where it stays constant then lessons at the top telling me this cou ntry has good health care and is developed.

Almost near the winter break. And me and Adam are pretty much done our essay

Latin America was introduced to soccer by English emigrants in the late 1800’s. (http://www.history.com/encyclopedia.do?articleId=222608) In Latin America soccer is called “futbol.”. When Futbol was introduced it made a big impact in Latin America as they began to practice and play the sport whenever possible. Soccer became one of the biggest and favored sports in Latin America. This sport grew even bigger by each year, creating Latin American soccer teams into International powerhouses. The early 1930’s were crucial in the formation of the professional phase in many countries of Latin America. (http://www.history.com/content/soccer/soccer-timeline)
FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football Association) was created in 1904. (http://www.fifa.com/classicfootball/history/game/historygame4.html) FIFA organized the first ever World Cup in 1930. (http://www.fifa.com/classicfootball/history/game/historygame4.html ) The first World Cup was hosted and won by the country Uruguay. (http://www.history.com/content/soccer/soccer-timeline) Uruguay beat Argentina in the World Cup final by two goal. (http://www.history.com/content/soccer/soccer-timeline ) By 1931 Professional phase of soccer began in Argentina, Uruguay and Chile. (http://www.history.com/content/soccer/soccer-timeline) Through the next couple years soccer became more important and grew through all of Latin America. Mexico finally got in the professional phase of soccer by 1943. (http://www.history.com/content/soccer/soccer-timeline) One big problem internationally is World War II interrupting the World Cup Indefinitely in the 1940’s to the 1950’s (http://www.history.com/content/soccer/soccer-timeline ) During that 10 year gap players in Latin America began to improve. Many Latin American fubol superstars began to grow before the next World Cup in 1950. (http://www.history.com/content/soccer/soccer-timeline)
Pele is known as one of the World’s best soccer player ever. He was born October 23 1940. (http://www.notablebiographies.com/Ni-Pe/Pel.html) His father, Dondinho was also a former soccer player and was a big influence and taught much to Pele. (http://www.expertfootball.com/players/pele/) At age 15 it was all worth it because he signed with a professional Brazilian team named Santos. (http://www.expertfootball.com/players/pele/) He made his international depute just a year later against Argentina in Mariana stadium. (http://www.expertfootball.com/players/pele/) At the age of 17 he was then recruited to the Brazil international squad. (http://www.expertfootball.com/players/pele/) At a World Cup in 1958 in Sweden, he scored a goal against whales to clinch Brazil to the next round. (http://www.notablebiographies.com/Ni-Pe/Pel.html ) When playing against France he proved that his last game was not a fluke by scoring three goals. (http://www.expertfootball.com/players/pele/) He proved his superstar status by scoring two goals at the 1958 World Cup final. (http://www.expertfootball.com/players/pele/ ) Pele’s club Santos also gained two intercontinental cup win in 1962 and 1963 because of his amazing skill to finish a ball.(http://www.notablebiographies.com/Ni-Pe/Pel.html) Pele soon got injured and thought he would never return the amazing soccer player as he was once before. (http://www.expertfootball.com/players/pele/) Then he unexpectedly shocked the world again in 1970. This was the very first World Cup broadcast in color and in front of thousands of people in the Aztec stadium, he scored the very first goal in the 1970 World Cup final. (http://www.expertfootball.com/players/pele/) The final was 4-1 and Pele reclaimed his status as the “King of Soccer.” (http://www.expertfootball.com/players/pele/ ) Later in the 1970’s Pele signed with the New York Cosmos. (http://www.notablebiographies.com/Ni-Pe/Pel.html) This was in the North American Soccer League for a huge three year contract for seven million dollars. (http://www.notablebiographies.com/Ni-Pe/Pel.html) He soon retired after the 1972 season with the cosmos. (http://www.notablebiographies.com/Ni-Pe/Pel.html) Pele is the only player to score over 1,000 goals in his career. (http://www.notablebiographies.com/Ni-Pe/Pel.html )
Another Internationally known superstar is Diego Armando Maradona. Mardona was born in Argentina on October 30, 1961. (http://www.hispanic-culture-online.com/maradona-biography.html ) At a young age Maradona was found as a great player with amazing skill. At age 10 he was apart of the junior team of Buenos Aires's Argentinos Juniors. (http://www.hispanic-culture-online.com/maradona-biography.html) At age 15 he signed with Boca Juniors for ₤1 million (http://www.biography.com/articles/Diego-Armando-Maradona-9398176 ) He then began to play for Argentina’s international team. (http://www.hispanic-culture-online.com/maradona-biography.html) On February, 27, 1977 Maradona was the youngest player to win and play a full national game at 16 years old. (http://www.hispanic-culture-online.com/maradona-biography.html) but in 1978 he was not chosen to play for the team during 1978 World Cup because they said he was too young, however the next year Maradona led Argentina’s youth team to victory in the World Youth Cup that was held in Japan. (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/3640799.stm ) When Maradona turned 21 years old he signed with Barcelona for a large £1.875 million dollar transfer. (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/3640799.stm) two years later in 1884 he signed with an Italian team Napoli for £4.68 million. (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/3640799.stm) Over 80,000 fans awaited him as he arrived by helicopter. (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/3640799.stm) In 1986 a controversial hand ball, that Maradona calls “the Hand of God” sent Argentina to the World Cup semi final. (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/3640799.stm) Later that year he was voted European Player of the Year. (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/3640799.stm) In 1987 He led Napoli to their first ever Italian League title in its 60 year history. (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/3640799.stm) In 1991 Maradona was caught with a positive drug test. (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/3640799.stm) He leaves the city of Napoli in disgrace and banned from the Italian league for 15 months. (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/3640799.stm) When he arrived in Argentina Maradona was arrested for smuggling cocaine, the latino superstar did not play soccer for two years. (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/3640799.stm) In 1992 Maradona came back to the soccer world signing with Sevilla of Spain for £4.68 Million. (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/3640799.stm) He played only 26 games and scored five goals before substituted and was his last appearance for team. (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/3640799.stm) Mardadona was then signed with a small Argentinean team called Newell's Old Boys. (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/3640799.stm) In 1994 Maradona’s international return they beat Greece 4-0. (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/3640799.stm)) Maradona was then sent home after failing another drug test. (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/3640799.stm) In 1997 Maradona retired at the age of 37 after failing another drug test after his first season for Boca Juniors. (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/3640799.stm) Over the years Maradona suffered from drug addiction. (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/3640799.stm) In 2005 he recovered becoming a television chat host for soccer. (http://www.biography.com/articles/Diego-Armando-Maradona-9398176) On November 4, 2008 Maradona was announced the Manger of his old international team Argentina. (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/internationals/7701071.stm )
This two players made a major difference in Latin American soccer and all over the world. They both made Latin American futbol jump ahead into a new type of soccer deifying not just their countries but, the world. In these early years this is only a stepping stone for the latino world in Soccer. Other major players like Ronaldinho, Messi, and Kaka are this centuries best Latin American players trying to bring up their countries and surpass their countries most famed best players. They all have big shoes to fill, but all are great players and still young and have many years of Professional Futbol in front of them.
Only one major problem in Latin America is its violence. One an example is a game in
Argentina where projectiles were thrown at the opposing players of Paraguay, Fans getting into fist fights in a Argentina stadium, and more fist fighting in Uruguay, Chile, Mexico and Columbia. (http://www.usatoday.com/sports/soccer/world/2007-02-22-latin-america-violence_x.htm) This not only is in Latin America but, throughout the World. (http://www.usatoday.com/sports/soccer/world/2007-02-22-latin-america-violence_x.htm) Almost after every game there is a violent act committed because of soccer in Latin America (http://www.usatoday.com/sports/soccer/world/2007-02-22-latin-america-violence_x.htm) During a Brawl a 15 year old boy was killed and 12 others injured in the Western City of Mendoza. (http://www.usatoday.com/sports/soccer/world/2007-02-22-latin-america-violence_x.htm) Police said that “In Argentina alone, there have been at least 145 deaths linked to the sport and fan incidents since 1939, the first year authorities began counting victims.” (http://www.usatoday.com/sports/soccer/world/2007-02-22-latin-america-violence_x.htm) Latin American countries have tried and are trying to help stop these incidents. (http://www.usatoday.com/sports/soccer/world/2007-02-22-latin-america-violence_x.htm)

Bad news! Good news!

Bad news: Test is not open book, it is open brain. So we need to actually study now ugh!!!!
Good news: Review day...and that is about it.

Today we looked at Mr.Schick's power point that has something to study from.

Environmental Geography- North Americans have transformed the land.

US the third largest consumer of water. China #1 India #2. US city dwellers consume 175 gallons daily. Water quality scarcity is becoming a problem.

Air modification is pollution like from automobiles. when this pollution goes in the air it causes acid rain. Acid rain can cause a lot of damage.

Population and Settlement- 3.2 mil in US, + 1.2 mil in Canada. 95% of Indians died after Europeans arrived (warfare & disease, especially smallpox)

There were 3 stages. Stage One (1600–1750 ). Stage Two (1750-1850). Stage Three (1850-1910). look at Power Point to get more details.

One of the largest and most rapid human transformations of the landscape in history.

megalopolis- one known one is stretching from Boston to NYC to Philly to Baltimore to Washington, DC.

Migration like the western movement. there is high tech jobs and things pulling you in. but when this happens you need more homes, subdivisions, malls, retirement complexes, schools. This is known as a sprawl

Black Exodous from south. Slaves mainly stayed with owners but got payed and did what they want and some moved more north.

Rural-to-urban- country people moved to city. 2oo years ago 5% lived in urban in 2008 82% do.

Growth of the Sun Belt South. After 1970, southern states grew quickly. Job opportunities, retirement possibilities

Counterurbanization-More affordable-Less crime-Better schools-Easier retirement

Cultural coherence & diversity- Immigrants have been arriving for 400 years.

US is the fifth largest Spanish-speaking nation.
#1 Mexico, #2 Spain, #3 Colombia, #4 Argentina, #5 US

1880-1930: huge wave of immigrants, mostly from Europe
In 1910, 14% of the US was foreign-born

Geopolitical Framework- US and Canada have a unique relationship
We share a 5,525 mile long border.

-(((The US was formed by breaking violently from Great Britain)))
-(((Canada peacefully separated from G. Britain)))

1 of Americas biggest problem.1.2 million per year are apprehended at the American-Mexican border.

1 of Canadians biggest problems. There are tensions between Canada and the US over salmon fisheries in the North Pacific, and over timber operations in British Columbia.
BUT hese are mere disagreements, not hostilities

Economic and social development- This region has the world’s most powerful economy and the most affluent population.

LIKE:::::
Agriculture: corn, soybeans, wheat, livestock, poultry, commercial forestry, grapes, fruits.

Metals: copper, lead, zinc, gold, silver, nickel

We still need to import a lot of oil, from Venezuela, Mexico, Canada, Saudi Arabia, Africa

2007: poverty rate in US is 13%, Canada is 18%

!!!!!!!!These are some notes that could be on the TEST. Other and more facts are on Mr.Schick's blog as a power point!!!!!!!!.

Notes from adam

Today in class we finished up presenting the essays of the five themes of geography. we alos went over a powerpoint on what we are learning right now. The five themes of human geography are Environmetal Geography, Population and Settlement, Culural Coherence and Diversity, Geopolitical Framework, and Economic and Social developement. All five of these themes relate to how North America was shaped and formed. Environmental Geography has to do with the global climate change in North America. Population and Settlement relates to North America by it shows hows cities expand and how the population becomes larger. Cultural Coherence and Diversity relates to North America by it talks about how we are a diverse region, and it also talks about immigration. Geoploitical Framework relates to North America by it talks about how it shapes the poiltical geography's with in the region. Economic and Social Developement has to do with North America by it plays a big role in economic globilization. That is what we did in class today.

North America is Culurally diverse, rich in natural resources, Ultra -globalized.

We are the last remaining global superpower.

Notes

Environmental Geography- big effect in jobs and set up. How people work is what their environment connects to. Different forms in different region EX. Sub tropic. Climates different and landforms precipitation. Has affected our environment and 3 animals that were introduced here were cattle, horses and wheat. Manipulating all of America since we got here. Find places were to build.

Population and Settlement- divers population. 335 million people in north America. Agriculture played big part settlement. Came from Europe early on. Majority of America used agriculture. Some moves west and north. Changed drastically. Metropolitan clusters uneven patterns across NA. Megalopolis is the word for it and includes (look at blog).

Cultural coherence and diversity- North Americas immigration history. Phase 1 Europeans with African Americans before 1820 Africans over run Europeans but were slaves. Phase 2 1820 to 1870 was from Germans to Irish. Third phases 1870 to is immigrants went to over 1 million. 4th phase in 1920-1970 is close countries immigrating. 1970 to present day is Asians and total immigrants went up.

Geopolitical Framework- mainly about how country interacts with other countries. Continental neighbors like Canada and Us is trade treaty.

Economic and Social Development-

Population and Settlement

I have chosen to write about population and settlement. This is one of the 5 themes to human geography. I feel this is important to North America because many people come here for many reasons and settle here.
Today more than 335 million people live in North America. 90 percent of Canada’s population is found within 100 miles of the United States boarder. Large urban region formed as multiple cities and grow and merge within each other is known as Megalopolis. The best example for this is the string of cities in eastern North America which includes; Washington DC; Baltimore; Philadelphia; New York; and Boston. North America increased ever since the European colonization. Before 1900’s large families increased along with foreign immigration settlement, which still occurs today. Less than 300,000 Indian were settled in Canada but, in the 1760’s Europeans came to settle and the population sky rocketed to 3.2 million people a century later! After World War II birth rates rose causing the “baby boom” generation born between 1946 and 1965. North Americas’ population is getting older, but it still brings in immigrants. A prediction by United Kingdom is that by 2050 the region’s population will grow to 445 million.
First stage: series of European colonial footholds, mostly in coastal regions of eastern North America. These footholds were established between 1600 and 1700.
Second stage: Europeanization of the North American landscape took place between 1750 and 1850.
Third stage: North America’s settlement expansion accelerated after 1850 and continued till 1910.
160 years later North American landscape was domesticated when the expanding population sought new land to occupy.

Rural to urban migration. North American tend is people migrate from country to city. 2 century s ago only 5 percent of North America lived in urban areas. now more then 80 percent live in urban areas. It comes down to that all of North America is a moving region were we are constantly going and always changing.

True? False? or Opinion?

Not all statements are true. Some are completlly false and some opinion. Through all these lies and fake facts there is the truth. For example things that use most likely or have a word that is to common. False ones have mankind has no affect on our climate. Vast majority of scientist say Global warming real and because of greenhouse gasses. big increase in cloral flural carbons caused hole in ozone layer, but that's repaired now. We also talked about how science is science and most the time it is correct. Then we talked about how religion and science are different but, if you could blend them together rather then making it if you believe in one you don't in the other.

Note to study from for test tomorrow.
53-55 maybe and 61-65
Global warming. reconize true false or opinion.
5 things for climate change.

Global Warming??? yes or no?

Today we learned that Global Warming is real and not a myth. Today we had heated discussions over if it was real or not. Some groubs believed it was real some not. We learned we need to use facts to back up our beliefs and this will be the truth and fact for the rest of our lives whether it is in the work place, school, or in life in general. Today was short so i do not have much to write about so I am done.

Friday, October 30, 2009

Today we started are arguments with global warming. Nates group went first saying global warming isn't real. Mr. Schick countered and explained how you need statistics and facts to prove and make a point. He picked on them to prove and explain you need fact about and anyone can write anything you want on the internet. For example shake spear weighing 450 pounds. A major thing we learned today is anyone can write their opinion and lie about who they are like saying they are a professor and saying this scientist proved this. When it could all be a lie.

Correct answers for test on 10/15

“On my honor, I have neither given nor received unauthorized aid on this graded academic work. I am a person of integrity and I do not cheat.” Agree to this statement by typing your name here: Peter Wenger

Globalization is the increasing interconnectedness of people and places through converging processes of economic, political and cultural change. Those who are pro-globalization believe that wealth will “trickle down” from rich countries to poor countries. They also believe it will spread the benefits of new ideas and new technologies to all nations. One organization that loans money to nations so they can invest in business is the International Monetary Fund. On the other hand, those who are anti-globalization say it is not fair, because the richest 20% of the world’s people consume 86% of the world’s resources, resulting in inequities between “haves” and “have nots.”

Use the CIA Factbook to answer the following questions: In Luxembourg the life expectancy is 79.33 years, the infant mortality rate is 4.56 deaths per 1000 live births, the literacy rate is 100%, and the TFR is 1.78 children born/woman. In Libya the life expectancy is 77.26 years, the infant mortality rate is 21.05 deaths per 1000 live births, the literacy rate is 82.6%, and the TFR is 3.08 children born/woman.

We often categorize nations as being “developed” or “developing” nations. Vietnam and Mexico would be considered developing nations; Japan and Canada are developed nations.

The current world population is over 6.6 billion people. The number that measures how many children the average woman in a nation will bear is known as the total fertility rate , which is abbreviated as TFR. When this number is exactly 2.1 , then the population stays the same; if it’s higher, the population goes up, and if it’s lower, the population decreases. The population is growing fastest in developing nations.

A population pyramid that is shaped just like a pyramid -- wide on the bottom and narrow at the top -- shows a country whose population is growing rapidly. If it is shaped more like a vase or a soda bottle, that nation’s population is decreasing/growing really slowly. Youngest people are found at the bottom of the pyramid, and males are found on the left hand side.

When discussing migration, people who are entering a country are known as immigrants, and people who are leaving a country are known as emigrants.

People leave their country for many reasons. An example of a push force is War or famine, and an example of a pull force is Job opportunities. If a nation’s net migration rate is a negative number, it means more people are leaving the country than are arriving.

STEP THREE: In a short, well-written essay, answer ONE of the following questions:

OR 3) The demographic transition graph describes the changes in birthrates and death rates that a country experiences over time. Describe the changes that the United States has gone through by using the demographic transition diagram.
back in the early 1800's America was in stage one with lots of births and lots of deaths but still a low population. second was when deaths begin to decrease as the births are still high so the population grows. Soon the births begin to go down because they find out the fortunes of a smaller family and the population begins to grow still. Then America is now in stage 4 were there are low deaths and low births but the population is peaking at a certain point. No countries have made it to stage 5 yet so it is hard to tell what will happen next to those countries.

STEP FOUR: First, go to the following website and read the news story you will find there:

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/09/24/world/americas/24mexico.html

Then, in a short yet brilliant essay, summarize that story by relating it to our studies of immigration in class. Try to use terms from the text and from our class discussions.
In this article it is talking about immigration and even though our country is going through tough economic times and there are "high unemployment in the United States and strict border enforcement" some Mexicans said they would still come to the US. 57 percent of immigrants that settle in the US say they enjoyed it while only 14 percent said it is worse then home country. Still Mexicans want to keep coming to the US even though we are having a hard time right now. More then half thinks it will get better over the years. So our nation will still be growing for a good long while.

What about Global warming

Global Warming is a problem that is slowly progressing and it will effect the next our next generation. It is a problem that our kids will be dealing with and we should do something to help them because it will effect them way worse then us. I fell we didn't cause it but, our older generation did. Yeah that's right I am blaming the old seniors that our grandparents and great grandparents did it. They screwed us over and destroyed this earth before we even came into it.

Global Warming is a problem?

Today we talked about global warming and everyone put their 2-cents in. Some people in our class fell it is not a big problem and they do not care about global warming and believe it will not affect our lives. Mr. Schick has said that he thinks it will effect us but, he knows it will not effect him. Others have felt that the world goes through stages of warming and cooling. I think it will not effect our generation but, it will effect the generation of our kids.

-Government Intervention
The government should step in and give companies and factories laws and limits. For example they should tell car companies that the MPG should be raised year by year. Another thing is to stopp how much factory polution goes in the air

-Panda Bears
A group believes they feel they take to much room and time and money and they should just finally kill off the panda bear. our class believes we should let them go on the wild on their own and die off themselves and let the "survival of the fittest" to take in effect.

A-B-C's Of Global Warming.

Global warming to some is a big hoax when others believe it is something to worry about. There is many researchers checking out this problem and believe that global warming will start to effect the earth when we are dead. So in my opinion I do not feel it is a big problem for me but, maybe for my kids it will be their problem and they will have to find something to help stop this. It is said in The New York Times that "fewer also see global warming as a very serious problem – 35% say that today, down from 44% in April 2008." I feel it is a problem that is growing and it is for real but, it will not effect my generation. Some people believe that it is because of fossil fuels being burned but the belief of global warming has declined over the years. For example "53% of independents now see solid evidence of global warming, compared with 75% who did so in April 2008." said the New York Times. In conclusion I believe people do not feel it this their problem and they have bigger things to do in their lives. Our generation will be living long enough to see evidence and the beginning of global warming being a problem but, it is our kids who will have to worry about the temperature and polar ice caps melting to the point were land starts going under water.

Notes

Climate is what links everyone together.

Solar Energy
- if no sun we wouldnt be here. we et all of our heat and energy from here. Incoming solar enrgy taken from land. greenhouse effect natural thing without greenhouse effect we would be like the climate of mars.....Suns rays go in and bounces off us but stays in to keep us warm. Esential for humans to live on Earth
Latitude- Depending were we are in the planet affects climate. "parallels" because parallel to equator. it runs east and west but, measures north and south.
Interaction between land and water- weather can be different near water then on land somewhere. inland diffrent from coast. Water bodies hold heat. oceanic or maritime climates have moderate temperatures without. Water and land controls climate in area.
World Pressure System- Land masses and oceans break up heat in world. high pressure cell are in sub-tropic zones get bigger in summer because of warm air in the regions around the equator. Low pressure caused by uneven heating in the earth...
Global wind patterns- pressure sytems cause global wind patterns. Wind is caused when air flows from high to low pressure. Wind brings weather across large areas of land and water. This does it for all types of weather.

Note for test tomorrow

Zebra could have been the best domesticated animal and almost like a horse but it is impossible.
papa New Guinea is hot, below the equator and isolated with very few plants to be grown. High altitude and one of oldest farming countries but, never grew into a "have" country because all plants were not as nutrishon as other plants being grown. they have pigs and that was because they were brought to country.
In my opinion when we went up next our was best by far.
China=rice Americas=corn Africa=Sorghum Middle East=Wheat Wheat is adaptable and one of the best to store.
America has tons of variety of different foods that can be grown.
Europe have diverse climate. common domesticated animal is sheep others sheep and cattle. lots of crops can be grown.
Africa hot and arid but some parts cold. doesn't have much crops to be grown there. Has tropical rain forest but, not good to feed people. Have much cattle.
Asia very divers in vegitation and animals. has extreme weather.
Goats dairy animals. One goat can help a family with milk and meat and also with it's fur.

Guns, Germs, and steal part 3

And the number of species are...14 and they are goats, sheep, pigs, cows, horses, donkeys, and camels, water buffalo, llamas, rain deer, yaks, mython and bali cows .Zebras have never been ridden into battle because they are too skittish. None are from New Guinea or Australia or sub-saharen Africa, North America and one in South America which is llama. The other 13 were from Asia and Europe. Cows sheeps goats horses middle east were big 4 important ones. Fertile crescent were geographically blessed they had all domesticated animals great farm land everything. They soon were the first to ever make a good home which they won't move from. Then more people were part of civilization and they got more people so some became specialized workers. As the group grew so did the technological advantages. They got a big advantage by being able to have domesticate animals and plants. New Guineans never had many advantages and never got great technology. Never advanced because they spent too much time trying to feed themselves. other places had surpluses so they were able to to more things then hunt. The middle east area was soon over used and couldn't produce more plants like before. So they moved away. Then they move East or West and if the same latitude means same day light same climate mainly the same. So they had geography on their side. Once they moved out other places those other regions picked up their way of life by domesticating animals and those animals got moved from land to land and all of the animal population got bigger and more domesticated. So New Guineans also have cities and such but some, live in spots were it almost like the stone ages. He came to a conclusion of it is by luck of Geography and if his people had the luck his people had Yolli would be the one's who "created the helicopter"

Guns, Germs ,and Steel part 2!

Found first Granary. The grew their own food because of drought. in 1950 B.C. First time ever seen in the world. They planted grains next to their village Plant domestication- picking out the plants that do you well and keep planting. not picking the small " not good ones." Scientists do this today by trying to make bigger better plants to help man kind. Only few parts in anceint world did civilization grew by its self. New Guinea earliest in world to farm but didn't have a same growth rate the America or China ect. Can only plant very few crops. Ultimatley came down to geographic luck and that is why other countries don't grow as great as others. Example United States farly new country but had many plants that could be grown that were neutrishish and had protein ect. And New Guinea old country but didn't have geographic luck like the US and other countries. Animal domestication- capture take care then kill or use like their milk. Animals could be used for so much and countries that took advantage of that the bigger better they grew. They were useful to pull plows, used "dung" as fertilizer for plants, and for just food. there are approximentl...to be continued

Europeans ruled the world with advantages of Guns, Germs, and Steel. Jared Diamond has researched for many years how humans have become so so different like what seperates "have" and "have nots". Guns, germs and steel Shaped the History of the world, but how? Paupa New guinea is were Jared starts his expodition to find this out. He is a professor by UCLA. He is a biologist and specializes in human physeoligist and loves birds and studies them so that i the reason he goes to New Guinea. He is also intrested how New Guinea and how they live. Most culturally diverse and most adaptible. Diamond questioned how are they much poorer? "Why do you white men have so much cargo and us New Guineans have so little?" Cargo means material goods. Cargo was treated like religion but, New Guineans believed that they were genetically inferior then white men. In this enviroment they are the only people to ever live in those conditions and the only way some other people who visit are the only way they live. "So How did our worlds ever become so diffrent?" All nations that progrssed faster have had technological advantages. And also had big populations and well organized work force. He had to think back befor other populations back 13 thousand yeras ago. The Middle East no has people and are living the same way as others. He goes to New Guinea to see how they hunt just like the way they did back in the Middle East back 13 thousand years ago. We stopped the Movie at Jared Diamond messing up a bow and arrow shot

IMPORTANT "Never befor in human history are so many people on the move. Today over 190 million people live outside the country of their birth, thus are officially designed as migrants by international agencies." Today there are more migrants then ever. EVER! a third of the 190 million people who migrated and live in 7 industrial country's: Japan, Germany, France, Canada, the United states Italy, and the United Kingdom. Most end up in city. Some migrate for certain reasons like War, prosecution, famine, and environmental destruction. refugee- Aperson who flees his/or her country because a well founded fear of persucution based on race or ethnicity, religion, ideology. Push forces is when things happen in which they are compelled to leave. pull forces is when someone is pulled becuase of economic reasons, better health care and better economics. another force is informational networks. informational networks are families, friends, and sometimes labor contractors who provide information on the mechanics of migration, transportation details. immigration is people coming in and emmigration is people leaving the country. People who are from the United States most likely have ancestors from other countries, for example my father's side is 100% Ukrainian and i am 50% Ukrainain. My mother's sid eof the family is mainly Mexican mixed with German and Eniglish. The net miration rate

Today in class

We talked about we talked about demographic Transition. This model shows th 4 stages countries go through. We looked up a graph online and read from page 22. We talked about how many countries who are developing are in Stage 1 while developed nations like us are at stage 4. Stage 1 is when there is no health measurements so there is high death rates and low death rates so the population is low. when in stage 2 health measurements get better so there is less deaths but, more people are still being born to keep population up. So the Rate of natural increase rises. Stage 3 people notice the benefits in small families and begin to have less kids. health measurements are high so less death and the population begins to peak. Stage 4 is an example of developed countries like the USA and Japan. they have good food resources, great health, and good family plans. For example marriages will come later with children born when older unlike Stage 1 countries were most younger women have babies sooner.

Pg 22 and In CLass

In the chart on page 22 when bot the birth rate and Death rate are up the total population will be low because even though there are more and more kids being born there are more dying. Thats is called Stage 1: Preindustrial. Stage 2:Transitional is when death rates fall dramatically and the birth rates stay high. this causes the RNI to rise rapidly. The reason death rates may go down is because the health and modern medicine is improving. Next for a country is Stage 3:Transitional is when death rates fall it takes time for people to slow down in birth rates so it begins to drop but, all those births made the population grow. Stage 4:Industrial it is a very low RNI from results of low birthrates and very low death rates. As a result, there is very little natural population increase. Many professionals use this to predict other countries and their growth rates.
In Class we looked at others homework and compared the countries they did. *When a chart is big at the bottom and narrows and makes a good pyramid it usually means they are a developing country. Countries were it is affordable most families don't have that many children but countries were people can not afford to feed families well they have many children. We have homework to read pg 22 and summerize what you read

Sunday, September 20, 2009

The total fertility rate of France is 2.0
There are more old people in France the Young People.

The total fertility rate of Brazil is 2.2
There are more young people then old people in Brazil

The rate of natural increase for Brazil will slowly grow because its fertility rate is at 2.2. On the other hand France has a 2.0 fertility rate which means in has a zero growth and the population will soon deminish. Although France is a developed country if the growth is 2.0 or lower the population will never grow. And because Brazil has a Fertility Rate of 2.2 the population will slowly grow.

In class today we.....

Today in class we talked about population pyramids. How most pyramids that have a large bottom will soon grow and get bigger with each generation. we also learned about TFR which means total fertility rate. If a TFR in a country are 2.0 or lower that means there is zero growth or decreasing growth. A country with a 2.1 rate or higher means that the country's population will grow. other important things for a country is migration, crude birth rate, crude and death rate which all affect a country's population. Most important thing about a pyramid is professionals use this to predict country's development.Tonight for homework we have to post pyramids and talk about them in our blog.

Today in class wee...

We watched "Did You Know 2.0" and found out many facts like 32 babies are born in 8 seconds. Mr. Wojo of course knows the guys who created this video and that is why he is the most interesting person in the world. We mainly talked about how times change so quick within minutes, hours, days, years. We also talked about how things will improve and change the next 5, 10, 15, 20 years and we probably laughed about that ever happening, but it is a possibility it could happen. We also talked about how the world is growing keeping track of how many people there are in the world. So what will happen in the next 20 years...? We will see, hopefully.

Class Notes

1. Population Pyramids
• Graphically represent the age gender distribution of certain population
• Can be represented by region or by country
• Help human geographers determine what is happening to individual populations across the globe.
2. Elements of population pyramid
Age: Young at bottom old on top
Gender: male on left female on right
Young and old populations: % of populations under age15: global average is 30 percent, low is 17 percent(Europe): high of 42 percent (Africa): High number indicates great potential for future growth; Percentage of population over age 65; identifies need for health care and other social services
Life expectancy: average numbers of years a person is expected to live; affected by many factor.
3. Using the pyramid
What's it good for
• Which country has an overall higher life expectancy
B
• Which country has a larger % of young population
A
• If both countries currently have the same population, which countries population will be twenty years from now? Why?
B because it stays basically even form bottom to top. When A has a very short life expectancy

Today we...

Today we took our very first test. It seemed simple and I think i passed. Then after everyone finished the test we talked about how Mr.Wojo is the most interesting man in the world. for example Mr.Schick went to a cool, different weird concert thing. Then wojo did a cool guitar playing thing with spoons then he threw them in the air and the crowd went crazy. Next he pulled out a Massachusets license plate and rubbed it across the guitar along with golf balls and more. We also tried to see if emails would make it to Mr.Schick and see if we got e-mails if we got a comment. Then we finally saw Mr.Schick get an email from Nate and Nate was "proud" of himself. Then we talked about kanye West somehow. Then we talked about how Nate will be that guy in his parents basement on the computor all day talking to girls as a male supermodel. So mainly today was about Nate.

Today in Class we...

First in class we started by finishing talking about our paragraph summery. We also talked about Globalization pros and cons. Most Cons talk about how poor countries do not have enough resouces to even feed themselves A.K.A. a "Have Not" Country. Most rich countries have enough resources to feed themselves and export for more money. So rich countries get richer as the poor get poorer. There were many examples of rich organizations getting richer and taking over smaller organizations/store. For example little stores can last as long as they are the only one in town but, when a bigger organization comes in it kicks out the smaller organization/store. WE have a Test on Monday. BUY LOCALLY!

Class Summery paragraph

Many resources are being exploited to pay of foreign debts that Globalization encourages to be paid off. World banks are getting bigger and richer. The only problem is poor countries are going to get even poorer. The world’s resources drop and the populations of these countries drop. This is seen in Haiti where the keep exporting charcoal instead of using it in Haiti. This is also dropping the public spending on food health and education.
